Esophageal Manometry
What is Esophageal Manometry?
ESOPHAGEAL MANOMETRY is used to measure the pressure waves in the esophagus as the patient swallows. The manometry catheter is a thin catheter passed through one nostril down the esophagus. During the test the child is asked to take small sips of water at specific times. The catheter measures the progression of the pressure waves with each swallow. This test can be done on patients who have problems with swallowing. No sedation is given for this procedure.
