Adolescent Medicine
The Division of Adolescent Medicine provides both primary and subspecialty care for adolescents and young adults. The division was established in 1991 in response to a growing need for specialized and multidisciplinary services for young people aged 12-21 years. |

The Board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists of CGF Anesthesiology Associates receive specialized training to meet the unique needs of children. Asthma Services
We have two full-time board-certified pediatric Allergists offering outpatient and inpatient consultations to infants, children and adolescents through age twenty-one. |
Autism - Children’s Guild Autism Spectrum Disorder Center
The ASD Center has a unique, multidisciplinary approach to evaluation and diagnosis of children with autism spectrum disorders. Prior to the first visit, parents will be asked to complete and return information on different areas such as the child’s medical history, behavior patterns, and sleep patterns. This information will be reviewed by the physicians. |
Child Life Department
Child Life Specialists are available to offer emotional support, teaching prior to procedures, and procedural accompaniment to patients and families. They are specially trained to work with children on a developmentally appropriate level, helping them cope with their hospital stay through education and fun activities. In addition, Child Life Specialists oversee the recreation rooms, entertainment groups, and donations made for the inpatients. |
Dental Medicine
Each year over 50,000 patients visit us for hygiene instruction, sealants, cleanings, and comprehensive dental care. Our patient population is large and diverse with many medically and physically compromised children. Our department provides predoctoral and postdoctoral specialty training and clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of the developing dentition of children, adolescents, and young adults. |

Ear, Nose & Throat - Pediatric
Vincent Callanan, M.D., and Clark A. Elliott, MD, are the full-time, hospital-based Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat physicians. Their appointments, as well as Kelly Smith, N.P., a dedicated nurse practitioner, and a team of audiologists has enabled Woman & Children's Hospital to expand its pediatric ear, nose, and throat services as well as morning, afternoon, and evening clinical hours. |

Emergency Department
Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo is designated by New York State as a Level I Regional Pediatric Trauma Center and is affiliated with the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Endocrinology-Diabetes
The Division of Endocrinology/Diabetes provides comprehensive care to infants, children, and young adults affected by diabetes or hormonal disorders (endocrinopathies). These include, but are not limited to, overweight, growth failure, thyroid and adrenal conditions, abnormal pubertal development, calcium metabolism disorders, adn disorders of sexual differentiation. Epilepsy Program
We strive to improve the overall quality of life of the patient with epilepsy. We respect the patient’s and family’s concerns, and work closely with the referring neurologist and/ or epileptologist on the evaluation and management of each patient. We maintain a safe, comfortable, professional, and confidential environment for the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. |
Gastroenterology
As an American Board of Pediatrics recognized sub- specialty, the Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition is part of the Department of Pediatrics and affiliated with the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. A qualified and deiverse staff provides evaluation and diagnpsis for infants, children and adolescents with diseases involving the gastrintestinal tract and/or liver, as well as nutrition support services. |
General Pediatrics
The Division of General Pediatrics with a qualified adn diverse staff provides well and sick care services at three sites across the city: Hodge Pediatrics, West Side Pediatrics, and Towne Gardens Pediatrics. The Hospitalist Service provides care for inpatients. In addition, it provides hospital impatient care through the Hospital service, and nurse practitioner support for 14 schools in the Buffalo School System. |
Genetics
The Division of Genetics at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo provides diagnostic, managment and genetic counseling services to pediatric and adult patients. |
Hematology/Oncology Inpatient Unit - Variety-8th floor
Services and Specialties Our division provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services for children and adolescents with malignancies and blood disorders. Care by the division is provided at both the Women & Children's Hospital and Roswell Park Cancer Institute; pediatric bone marrow transplantation is provided at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Care is provided through an interdisciplinary team approach, including hematologist/oncologist, surgeons, pediatric nurse practitioners, pharmacists, nutritionists, social workers, psychologist and child life specialist. The physicians participate in national studies of the Children's Oncology Group, which undertakes clinical trials evaluating the newest treatments in childhood cancer. Referrals needed from the primary physician of those with a suspected diagnosis of a hematologic or oncologic condition.

Division of Allergy/Immunology has two full-time board-certified Allergy/Immunology physicians and provides services for the clinical evaluation and management of both pediatric and adult patients with a history of recurrent infactions and immune deficiency disorders. |

The division consists of three full-time pediatric infectious disease specialists: Howard Faden, M.D., Robert Welliver, M.D., and Ray Ogra, M.D. Together, they have more than 80 years of clinical experience, and are available to help manage the complete spectrum of infectious diseases common to children of all ages. |

Neonatology
The Division of Neonatology at Women & Children's Hospital and the University at Buffalo is an academic division with a busy, thriving clinical neonatal intensive care service, active research interests, and a long-standing commitment to fellows and residents. As the Regional Perinatal Center for critically ill newborns, we service the eight counties of Western New York and beyond. Our 64-bed NICU admits over 740 babies each year and has an average daily census of 50 babies each day. Approximately one-third of our admissions are transported from an outlying hospital by our active Neonatal Transport Team which consists of neonatal nurse practitioners and specially trained neonatal respiratory therapists, readily available to provide stabilization and transport to WCHOB for any infant in our region. |
Nephrology
The Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo Kidney Center was
established in 1983. Its primary objective is to provide comprehensive
care to all infants, children and adolescents with kidney disease who
live in Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania. As a referral
center for a large geographical area, all care is coordinated with the
primary physician. The Center also serves as a training program for
medical students, residents and nephrology fellows. |
Neurology
Provide diagnosis and management of children and adolescents with neurologic disorders including seizures, headaches, brain tumors, neuromuscular disease, developmental disabilities, Autism, movement disorders, sleep disorders, degenerative diseases, and neurocutaneous syndromes including Neurofibromatosis, Sturge-Weber, and tuberous sclerosis. |
Neuromuscular Disease
Diagnosing Neuromuscular Conditions: There are over 40 different types of neuromuscular conditions and an accurate diagnosis of a neuromuscular condition is critical. Diagnosis can involve several evaluations including: a thorough medical history and clinical evaluation, electrodiagnostic studies, blood samples, genetic studies, and possibly a muscle or nerve biopsy. |

Nutrition Services
Food Services provide meals for patients at the Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. Patients are offered a Restaurant Style Menu to choose from for each meal. One of our Hospitality Associates will deliver your tray and assist you in making your meal selections. Patients that require a special diet prescribed by their physician will be visited daily by a Registered Dietetic Technician to assist in menu choices that adhere to your diet. |

Orthopaedics
The Department of Pediatric Orthopaedics is comprised of fellowship trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeons, experienced in the care of infants, children and young adults with musculoskeletal problems, both congenital and acquired. Pediatric orthopaedics provides treatment of infants, children and young adults for fracture care, all congential and developmental deformities of the upper and lower limbs, spine and sports related injuries. |
PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)- Recovery Room
Patients having surgery will be transfered from the operating room to the PACU for their initial recovery from anesthesia. Also known as the "Wake Up Room", patients are carefully monitored during the emergence period from anesthesia. The nursing staff assesses pain, and then provides appropriate medical management. Continuous monitoring is provided, and upon completion of the recovery period the patient is then transferred to the appropriate floor or unit. |
Parents and Children Together (PACT) Program
Case management services include linkage to community and educational services as well as medical care coordination. HIV positive children receive psychological services, nutritionist services, and medication adherence services in addition to the primary and specialty care services provided. On-site services are also provided by UB School of Pharmacy and Volunteer Lawyers Project. A weekend summer camp is provided for HIV exposed and HIV infected children in the month of June. |
Patient Management Services (Discharge Planning and Social Work)
- Provide assistance for a safe transition from the hospital to home.
- Coordinate homecare needs and link patients to services in the community.
- Work with patient's insurance companies in coordinating care once patient leaves the hospital.

The PICU at WCHOB is a 20 bed multidisciplinary unit dedicated to providing highly specialized critical care to patients of all ages. Our services include medical, general surgery, neurosurgery, ears/nose/throat, orthopedic surgery, oncology, maternity, women's services, epilepsy, trauma, and congenital anomalies. |

Pharmacy - Children’s Home Care Pharmacy
The Children’s Home Care Pharmacy is a full-service retail pharmacy. The pharmacy has the ability to fill outpatient prescription orders, as well as prescription drug counseling and specialty compounding, with regards to children’s dosing. The Children's Home Care Pharmacy can also often obtain hard to find prescription and over-the-counter items. Although the pharmacy specializes in children, we fill prescriptions for the entire family, including pets!

Psychiatry - Child and Adolescent Outpatient Clinic
Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo has operated this outpatient mental health clinic for more than 30 years. The clinic is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health.
We are committed to providing thorough evaluations of children and adolescents who may be experiencing emotional or behavioral problems. Following evaluation, we will provide whatever treatment is necessary or help the family find appropriate treatment elsewhere. We also provide Cosultation and Liason inpatient services, for the Women and Children's Hospital. Preadoption Evaluation services are also available |
Quality and Patient Safety
The Office of Quality & Patient Safety at the Women & Children's Hoospital of Buffalo (WCHOB) looks to identify areas for clinical improvement and to build interdisciplinary teams to develp innovative, effective, and practical solutions. Tams are generally led by staff physicians, and include representation from nursing, pharmacy, administration and other departments. Initiatives are data-driven and outcomes-oriented. Regional Poison Center (Western New York)
The Western New York Regional Poison Center is a 24 hour/365 day emergency hotline dedicated to the management of potential poisonings. The hotline is staffed by Registered Nurses, Pharmacists, and Physicians with national and board certification in toxicology.

Since 1956, the Robert Warner, M.D. Center for Children with Special Needs of Women & Children’s Hospital has been providing comprehensive rehabilitation services consisting of diagnostic, evaluative and therapeutic services to children in Western New York and surrounding areas with known or suspected disabilities. The Robert Warner, M.D. Center is conveniently located at Women & Children's Hospital on the Variety 4.
Each clinic or program is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of specialists specifically selected to meet your child’s needs. The whole child is our primary focus of care.

In collaboration with the Division fo Pediatric Allergy and Immunology and its Chief, Mark Ballow, M.D., Dr. Hennon ensures quality care for all rheumatology outpatients and inpatients, prompt consultations to referring physicians and continuous physician coverage for patient and family needs. Dr. Hennon works closely with support staff and a nurse designated to the service to provide patients and families with social and school support. |

Upstate New York Shaken Baby Syndrome Education Program
A hospital based education and prevention program, the Upstate New York SBS Education Program was created in December 1998 with the purpose of educating both parents (mothers and, whenever possible, fathers or father figures) of all infants born in an 8-county region of Western New York, before discharge from the hospital, about the dangers of violent infant shaking. |
Urology
The department's two Pediatric Urologists are fellowship trained in Pediatric Urology. They are certified by the American Board of Urology, Fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Urology, and the Society of Pediatric Urology. Patient care is also enhanced by our full time Urology Nurse. |
