The purpose of this clinic is to provide developmental and rehabilitation evaluations and followups of children who were in Children's Hospital Intensive Care Nursery or who were referred by their pediatrician or family doctor in the community. The follow-up consists of monitoring their motor, communicative, cognitive and sensory development. The goal is to prompt early awareness regarding developmental and rehabilitation problems and provide appropriate intervention in conjunction with the family pediatrician and community agencies.

Feeding Disorders Clinic
The purpose of the feeding clinic is to enhance and monitor health, nutrition and oral motor functioning for children and young adults who have feeding problems. This is done by providing interdisciplinary diagnostic, treatment and consultative services for children and young adults with feeding and swallowing disorders. Patients to be served include: children with bottling problems, chewing, swallowing, gagging, coughing or trouble breathing during feedings; children with delayed development or specific disabilities associated with poor growth; children with behavior problems during feeding; children with genetic conditions impairing oral motor functions. A physician's referral is requested.

Down Syndrome Program
The purpose of this clinic is to provide quality and consistent care to children with Down Syndrome.  The program consists of diagnostic evaluation, treatment plans and an ongoing support system.  Assessment and follow-up are the focus of the medical model used in this program.  The goal is to assist each child in reaching their optimal level of function in their family, school and social surroundings.

Speech and Hearing Program
Focuses on the child's overall communication abilities. These abilities effect all aspects of the child's life. Complete evaluation of hearing/speech skills includes assessment of auditory comprehension skills, expressive language ability, auditory processing of language, memory skills, oral-motor abilities, speech sound production and feeding/swallowing abilities.  Therapy sessions are provided to improve all aspects of the child's ability to functionally communicate. Family members are closely involved in all evaluation and treatment sessions. Clinicians work cooperatively with school personnel to address hearing and speech issues that effect school re-entry.

Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program
The purpose of the Orthopedic Rehabilitation Clinic is to provide assessments, monitoring, and referral for intervention of orthopedic conditions of the neurologically involved children identified as needing such services.

Rehab/Motor Clinic
The purpose of this clinic is to provide comprehensive rehabilitation management for children with motor problems not requiring surgical orthopedic intervention. This clinic will work closely with Adaptive Equipment Clinic to provide optimal equipment and medical management that will enhance optimal functional abilities.

Limb Care Program
The purpose of this clinic is to provide progressive quality and consistent care to children with congenital or acquired amputations or limb disorders.  Assessments and follow-up focus on medical management of residual limbs as well as the child's functional abilities with the goal of maintaining the child's optimal level of participation within his or her family, school and social system.  Close contact with appropriate community agencies.  Any child, from birth to 21 years with limb disorders and/or amputations can access the services of the clinic.

Physical Therapy
Assesses how a child moves within his or her environment.  The focus is on large body movements such as rolling, crawling, sitting, walking, etc.  In many instances assistive devices such as walkers, crutches, braces or wheelchairs are necessary to help the child be successful.  Family environment is highly encouraged.  An evaluation takes place that includes assessment of muscle strength and tone, joint flexibility, balance, posture and the child's ability to move from place to place.  Therapy plans and activities are directed at helping a child relearn skills.

Occupational Therapy
Focuses on the development of the patient's ability to participate in functional activities of daily living.  These include self-care tasks, as well as, play and work skills.  The therapist completes a comprehensive evaluation and an individualized treatment plan formulated for each child, keeping in mind the child's and family's individual needs.  Therapeutic intervention may include sensory integration, gross and fine motor coordination, perceptual motor development and self-care training.  Adaptive equipment, assistive technology and orthotics may also be used as part of the treatment sessions.

Adaptive Seating Program
The main purpose of the adaptive seating program is to provide children with mobility, positioning and related adaptive equipment, to maximize comfort, independent function and access to their environment.  This clinic is open to any child with special needs.

Aquatic Therapy
Children with neurological, developmental, orthopediatric and muscular skeletal concerns are treated in the therapeutic pool at our Flint Road location.  Children are seen 1:1 for 30 minutes per week by aquatic trained occupational and physical therapists.  Focus is on promoting mobility & strength, decreasing muscle tone and facilitating independent movement in the water.

Spasticity Clinic
The program is multi-disciplinary clinic that evaluates children with muscle tone problems such as children with Cerebral Palsy. The main focus of the assessment is to determine if spasticity interferes with the child's functioning. Each child is assessed by all team members to determine what techniques, medications or procedures may benefit them by managing their muscle tone. Various approaches are utilized such as medication, orthopedic surgical procedures, casting/splinting or the use of adaptive equipment. The goal is to provide care that optimizes a child's function and comfort level while improving ease of caregiving.

The Social Worker
Addresses the child’s and family’s psychosocial concerns and assists them in linkage and referrals to appropriate community resources.  This enables the child to receive services while living in his or her own environment, thus providing family stability and support.
