Overview
Having a baby should be a wonderful experience for the entire family. To help ensure that it is, it’s important for both the mother and child to be followed closely throughout the pregnancy, during the delivery and after the birth.
Women and Children’s Hospital is the regional perinatal center for women experiencing high-risk pregnancy, but our labor and delivery team is also highly skilled in the care of healthy pregnant and delivering women.
The Women and Children’s Hospital Laboratory is part of the Kaleida Health’s fully consolidated Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The Laboratories comprised of:
- Essential Service Core Laboratory
- Toxicology Laboratory
- Special Hematology Laboratory
- Special Coagulation Laboratory
- Full Service Blood bank
- Anatomic Pathology
- Gastroenterology Laboratory
- Immunology Laboratory
- Virology
- Patient Service Center for outpatient blood draws and specimen collection
- Biochemical Genetics & Molecular Laboratory and the Cytogenetics Laboratory transferred to the Buffalo General Hospital site
Other pertinent information:
- WCHOB Hospital Laboratory provides testing for WCHOB Hospital Inpatients, the Emergency Department, and STAT testing for the WCHOB Patient Service Center. Routine clinical testing s forwarded to Kaleida Health’s Flint Rd. Regional Production Laboratory. Routine Anatomic Pathology, Biochemical Genetics & Molecular Laboratory and the Cytogenetics Laboratory are forward to the Centers of Excellence located at the Buffalo General Hospital. The WCHOB Toxicology, Special Heamtology, Special Coagulation, Gastroenterology Laboratory and Virology Laboratories serve as the system Laboratories for these specialty areas.

Accommodations
- Our 11-bed unit contains five birthing rooms, including one with a whirlpool tub.
- A lounge chair is available in each room for the comfort of your coach.
- TV and phone services are available in each room.
- Shower facilities are available for your use.
- A kitchenette is available with a microwave and coffee pot, but please check with your nurse or physician prior to eating or drinking anything.
